Features: This autobiographical novel by the veteran writer Yan Yiyan has indeed added a new artistic figure, "Yan Ding," to the gallery of characters in Chinese children's literature. This is a completely new archetype, a young lady from a Manchu aristocratic family, who struggles under the heavy oppression of feudal autocracy, overcomes countless hardships, and ultimately grows and transforms into a vanguard fighter of the proletariat. Through the growth of one individual and the division of a feudal family, the novel reflects the great struggle of the Chinese people under the leadership of the Communist Party in resisting invasion, fighting for democracy, and seeking liberation. The author not only writes about Yan Ding's experiences and fate but also genuinely reveals the inner world and soul of a person, portraying a real, living individual. The vitality of the work comes from its artistic charm. Salt Ding'er is impeccable in its theme, tone, and content, and it is also of high artistic quality. First, it features vivid and well-developed characters. Yan Yiyan, who grew up in a Manchu noble family, is referred to as a "misfortune-bringer" by her grandmother because she is a woman and her uncle is a "revolutionary" who knew Sun Yat-sen, and she suffers constant bullying. Her situation is quite unique, but Yan Yiyan does not simply "tell stories" superficially; instead, she writes about people in a very real and tangible way, expressing their emotions. She devotes a great deal of attention to Yan Ding, the protagonist who runs through the entire book, not only describing her words and actions but also delving into her inner world, fully portraying her stubborn, resilient, and unyielding personality. Additionally, the secondary characters such as her mother, grandmother, Liu Ma, stepmother, and Ling Ge are also depicted with great depth, leaving a lasting impression.
