Features: In the 21st century, the environment for enterprise development in terms of economy, society, culture, politics, etc. has undergone or is undergoing changes. The lifespan of enterprises is becoming shorter, and whether enterprises can achieve sustainable development—or whether they can become long-lived enterprises—has become a crucial issue. This book establishes the foundation for enterprise sustainable development by re-examining the essence of enterprises, analyzing governance structures, and designing operator incentive mechanisms and organizational structures, while also proposing a theoretical framework for sustainable development. The root of sustainable development lies in building core competitiveness, in knowledge and innovation within the enterprise, and in organizational learning and practice. The book consists of 14 chapters, divided into two parts. The first part, chapters 1-5, discusses the fundamental issues of enterprise development from the perspectives of modern enterprise theory and management theory, while chapter 6 builds the theoretical framework for sustainable development based on the preceding five chapters. The second part, chapters 7-14, focuses on how enterprises can become long-lived companies, i.e., achieve sustainable development. Each chapter includes practical cases to better illustrate and understand the content discussed. The content of this book has been taught to doctoral and master's students at Fudan University, as well as to IMBA and EMBA students. It has also been presented to leaders of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (the former Central Enterprise Work Commission), leaders of some provincial and municipal governments, chairmen and general managers of many large enterprises, all of whom have highly praised it. This book is particularly suitable as a textbook for graduate students in management and economics, MBA, and EMBA programs in universities, as well as for chairmen, general managers, and senior executives of enterprises.
