Features: Municipal studies, also known as municipal administration or urban management, focuses on urban development and management issues from the perspective of government management. Since the emergence of cities, urban management has existed, and various management knowledge has continuously expanded as people began to explore the inherent laws of urban development and management. Cities in different eras and countries vary in many ways but also share commonalities in their management. We believe that municipal studies is a science that investigates the laws governing the effective management of urban public affairs by urban public power institutions, particularly by urban national administrative organs. In the new era, urban rapid development is closely linked with globalization, informatization, and the development of a market economy. Both the appearance of cities and their governance methods have undergone significant changes, which demands that municipal administration must conduct scientific research on the transformation of government functions, updates in concepts, and changes in methods of urban management under this backdrop. This book can be logically divided into three parts. Part I is an Overview of Municipal Studies (Chapters 1–3), which analyzes the meaning of municipal affairs and municipal studies, introduces the history of urban development and its objective laws, and examines the functions and types of cities. Part II is Municipal Systems and Processes (Chapters 4–6), which elaborates on the organizational systems and mechanisms of urban governments in urban governance through an analysis of the main subjects in urban management, and accordingly analyzes the public decision-making process of urban governments.
