Having a child and raising them to adulthood is a joyous occasion. From the moment a mother becomes pregnant, she receives blessings and congratulations from her family and relatives. Then, life becomes busy, naturally with happiness. In children, parents their entire hopes.
Raising children is also a source of distress. Many parents pour their hearts into it, yet their children never seem to live up to their expectations. Some children become less interested in studying as they grow older. Some parents sacrificially meet their children's every need, yet the children remain ungrateful, even displeased with their parents. Some parents' earnest advice is met with indifference, while others are looked down upon by their own children. They ask: What's wrong with children today? They think: When we were young, it wasn't like this.
Many children also feel distressed. Why is the homework never ending? No matter how hard they try, they can't make adults happy. Why can't many of their good ideas be understood? In the new century, will such conflicts become even sharper? In the new century, should these conflicts be resolved more reasonably? Comrade Lu Qin's book, "Letters to Century Parents," is an effort to address such conflicts.
