Features: Shortly after completing my residency training, I began using notes and sketches to record the surgeries I learned and taught to residents in the operating rooms of the University of California and the former San Francisco General Hospital. At that time, I planned to imitate the surgical illustrations of Cutler and Zollinger and compile a similar atlas. They were my surgical teachers during my fourth year of work. Soon, I became busy with other academic work, and it wasn't until later, when my private practice responsibilities decreased, that I had free time.
