Having a child and raising them to adulthood is a joyous and happy event. From the moment a mother becomes pregnant, she is blessed and celebrated by her family and relatives. Then, life becomes busy, naturally filled with joy. On the child, parents their entire hopes.
Raising a child is also a source of frustration. Many parents pour their hearts into it, yet their children never seem to meet their expectations. Some children become less interested in studying as they grow older. Some parents sacrifice their own comfort to fulfill their children's needs, yet the children remain ungrateful, even resentful of their parents. Some parents' earnest advice is dismissed by their children, while others are looked down upon by their own children. They ask: What's wrong with children today? They think: I wasn't like this when I was young.
Many children also feel frustrated. Why do they have so much homework? No matter how hard they try, they can't make adults happy. Why can't their good ideas be understood? In the new century, will these conflicts become more intense? In the new century, shouldn't these conflicts be resolved more reasonably? Comrade Lu Qin's book, "Letters to Century Parents," is an effort to address such conflicts.
