Features: The Second Plenary Session of the Ninth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. It opened in Lushan on August 23, 1970, and concluded victoriously on September 6. During and around this session, the conspiracy of the Lin Biao counter-revolutionary group to usurp the Party and seize power was exposed more fully. Chairman Mao Zedong promptly identified and dealt a severe blow to this plot. I personally witnessed the events before and after this session, and some of them are related to me personally. Therefore, I have written about what I know regarding the period before, during, and after this session, so that readers can gain a more comprehensive understanding of the historical context. This work also holds some reference value for Party history departments and historians. For this purpose, I wrote the book Chairman Mao Zedong and the Struggle Against the Lin Biao Counter-Revolutionary Group.
During the mid-stage of what was hailed as the "history-defying" "great revolution of the proletariat personally launched and led by Chairman Mao," a major historical event that shocked the world occurred—this was when Chairman Mao crushed the Lin Biao counter-revolutionary group. Comrade Wang Dongxing worked long-term beside Chairman Mao Zedong and personally witnessed the struggle between Chairman Mao and the Lin Biao counter-revolutionary group before and after the Second Plenary Session of the Ninth Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He is one of the witnesses to this thrilling struggle. Through his personal experiences and reliable materials, he has revealed the origins and developments of this struggle, authentically recreating the original state of that period in history. He has left behind a precious historical record.
