After I led the compilation of the "National Unified Examination Syllabus for English Proficiency of Equivalent Applicants for Master's Degrees," relevant leaders encouraged me to oversee the writing of a supplementary teaching material for candidates to use in their review. I have always been against the "ocean of questions" strategy—opposing the substitution of exams for normal teaching, the replacement of regular study with excessive practice, and the use of passing a particular exam to represent language proficiency. The reason is simple: a foreign language is not learned by doing a few sets of examination questions.
However, I still took on the task of editing this teaching material. Why? The reasons are straightforward. First, our working group developed the "Syllabus," giving us a deep understanding of its content, requirements, question types, and difficulty levels, making us the most suitable candidates for compiling mock questions. Second, we are serious and dedicated teachers. I
