Features: Drama is a special form in literature, and outstanding playwrights are international. Therefore, Drama: Masterpieces selects excerpts from English versions of world-class dramas. Some of these playwrights are not from the UK or the US, but their English translations have had a certain or era-specific influence on UK and US drama creation. For example, the ancient Greek playwrights Aeschylus and Sophocles, the Norwegian playwright Ibsen, and the Russian playwright Chekhov. Additionally, some important UK and US playwrights are not included here because it is a collection of memorized excerpts, and the language should be standardized, with minimal dialects or slang. Thus, some famous plays had to be omitted.
