Features: The revision mainly follows the following four principles:
1. Maintain the basic framework of the original book. College English Course (Volume 4) (Revised Edition) remains a traditional intensive reading textbook, adhering to the core approach of lesson-centered learning. The content of each lesson is largely the same as the original, still divided into three main parts: text, exercises, and grammar. The supplementary poems are still provided for students' self-study and appreciation, and do not require formal classroom handling by teachers;
2. Strive to align the overall objectives, language points, vocabulary scope, and exercise methods of the with the requirements specified in the Ministry of Education's curriculum guidelines. It is hoped that the intensive reading course can basically fulfill its role as a course type;
3. Refresh the content of the textbook to make it more vivid, diverse, and practical;
4. Work hard to enhance the planning and scientific rigor of the textbook, improve its overall quality, increase the amount of information, and better integrate language and culture. The above points are merely the authors' subjective wishes. Given the authors' limitations, various errors and shortcomings are still inevitable. Therefore, we sincerely hope that users of College English Course (Volume 4) (Revised Edition) will kindly provide feedback and corrections. Additionally, the total number of exercises is relatively high, and teachers must select and use them as needed. This point is also particularly important for users to pay attention to. This book is part of College English Course compiled by Beijing Foreign Studies University, and is intended for advanced undergraduate students of college English for intensive reading classes. In the senior year, reading classes should focus on improving students' self-learning abilities, independently solving language and background knowledge difficulties using dictionaries and other reference materials, and correctly understanding the text and the author's perspective. Therefore, the annotations in this book are kept concise, generally including only background knowledge that is relatively difficult to find in the reference materials students already have. Some language or background knowledge difficulties are addressed in the "Exercises" section, and are not included in the "Annotations."
