Features: Fan Wenlan is a contemporary recognized historian and authority in historical studies. In the 1940s of this century, he wrote China's first systematic historical work using Marxist viewpoints under the oil lamp in his cave dwelling—A Concise Compendium of Chinese History. On July 20, 1968, Mao Zedong passed a message to Fan Wenlan: China needs a comprehensive history. Until a new approach is developed, continue writing according to your system and viewpoints. Before his death, Fan completed the first four volumes of A Comprehensive History of China. After his passing, Cai Meibiao bravely took on this unfinished task. This half-century-long work authentically reproduces the historical trajectory of Chinese civilization. It represents the overall level of historical research in China. The arguments in the book are clear yet not biased, and the narration is detailed yet not overly. Although it is a rigorous academic work, it is highly readable and widely recognized as a work for both scholars and the general public.
