Features: In our country's higher education institutions (including normal colleges and education schools), English majors offer two courses in senior grades: "History of British and American Literature" and "Selected Readings in British and American Literature." It is advisable to teach "History of Literature" in conjunction with "Selected Readings in Literature," as the two complement each other; otherwise, it is easy to create a disjointed learning experience. Therefore, it is necessary to compile a textbook that combines a literary history with selected readings. This combined textbook is designed for use by senior English majors in higher education institutions. The history section provides a concise overview, while the author and work section includes: (1) detailed introductions to authors; (2) summaries of works (if the selected text is a fragment of a work); (3) key selected excerpts, with concise coverage of the ancient and detailed coverage of the modern; (4) annotations. In teaching, the classroom focuses on lecturing on the works, while the history section is left for the teacher to manage for student reference. The combined history and selection section is also left for the teacher to manage for student reference. Combining the history and selected readings for teaching can achieve twice the result with half the effort and produce excellent teaching outcomes, which is the purpose of compiling this book.
