Features: This book provides fundamental materials for the study of entomology, biodiversity conservation, biological evolution, and biogeography. It serves as a reference for researchers and educators in entomology, professionals in biodiversity conservation and agricultural/forestry production, as well as faculty and students in relevant disciplines of universities and colleges. The Lymantriinae (formerly known as Lymantriidae) belong to the Noctuoidea of the Lepidoptera order and are significant forest pests, frequently harming forests, roadside trees, windbreaks, nurseries, and fruit trees. A few species are also pests of grassland crops. This volume presents a systematic summary of Lymantriinae research in China at the current stage, recording 516 species and 38 subspecies, which are classified into nine subfamilies, 137 genera, and 22 subgenera. It includes seven newly described species, three newly recorded species, and revisions to the taxonomic status of some species and subspecies. The content is divided into two parts: General Introduction and Specific Accounts. The General Introduction covers the nomenclature of Lymantriinae, brief history of research, taxonomic status and monophyly of Noctuoidea, classification system and phylogeny, geographic distribution, biological characteristics, host plants, and economic value. The Specific Accounts include keys to genera and species, with each species supported by literature references, distribution, and morphological descriptions (including external genitalia). Over 100 species also have larval descriptions and host plant information. The book is accompanied by more than 900 illustrations, including cladograms, characteristic diagrams, and dissections of female and male external genitalia, as well as 240 color photographs of adult moths.
