Features: Black flies are a group of important medical insects closely related to medicine and veterinary science. This book is a summary of the author and others' more than 20 years of research on black flies in China, recording 209 species belonging to 5 genera and 19 subgenera of the subfamily Simuliinae. About one-third of them are new records from China, and 48 new species have been established. It is a systematic research monograph on black flies in China. The book is divided into two parts. The first part is the general introduction: it outlines the history of black fly research, morphological identification, taxonomic system, faunal analysis and geographical division, biology, cytogenetics and molecular biology, and medical importance. The second part is the systematic identification of black flies: it introduces the historical evolution, key identification points, morphological overview, ecological habits, geographical distribution, and taxonomic discussion of different taxonomic ranks, accompanied by identification keys and more than 200 illustrations and characteristic diagrams.
