Features: This book is based on the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of Mechanical Design Foundation Course in Higher Vocational and Technical Colleges (Near-Mechanical Specialty)" revised in 1996, which was approved and issued by the Higher Education Department of the State Education Commission, and also refers to the revision of the "Basic Requirements for Teaching of Mechanical Design Course in Higher Vocational and Technical Colleges (Mechanical Specialty)" currently being formulated by the Ministry of Education. The book, excluding the preface, consists of 14 chapters. It primarily elaborates on the structure, motion characteristics, working principles, and related design calculations of common mechanisms and general components in general machinery, and briefly introduces some basic knowledge of mechanical dynamics. In this revision, special topics are no longer included. The content of Special Topic 1 on modified gears from the first edition is incorporated into the chapter on gear drives as optional learning material to meet the needs of certain specialties, and Special Topic 2 is removed. Considering the teaching realities of higher vocational and technical colleges, the book emphasizes practicality and relevance, reflects the teaching experience of some higher vocational and technical colleges in recent years, and applies the new national standards. This book can be used as a textbook for mechanical design foundation courses (approximately 65–100 hours) in mechanical and near-mechanical disciplines of higher vocational and technical colleges, and can also serve as a reference for relevant engineering technicians.
