Features: The rationale for compiling this textbook is as follows: (1) Strengthen the teaching of probability theory and experimental statistics to lay a solid foundation for subsequent courses and students' professional work, preparing them for further studies; (2) Focus on the integration of probability theory, mathematical statistics, and applications to enhance students' awareness and ability to use mathematics; (3) Adopt a third-person writing style throughout to guide students in understanding new concepts, discovering new patterns, proposing new methods, and retracing the innovative journey of probability theory and experimental statistics and methods; (4) Provide flexibility for instructors to prepare lesson plans before class and teach according to students' needs during class; (5) Appropriately reorganize the content system of experimental statistics, biostatistics, economic statistics, and social statistics originating from science and engineering disciplines to make examples and exercises more suitable for agricultural students' requirements.
This textbook is edited by Yu Jialin of Huazhong Agricultural University as the chief editor, with Zhou Jianjun of Hunan Agricultural University, Cao Dianli of Henan Agricultural University, Zhu Qianjun of Huazhong Agricultural University, Liu Xingwei of Hubei Agricultural College, and Luo Wenjun of Guizhou University as deputy editors. Dong Rui and Xiao Zhihong of Huazhong Agricultural University participated in the writing, review, and pilot teaching of the textbook.
This book is a research outcome of the Ministry of Education's "Reform Plan for Teaching Content and Curriculum Systems in Higher Education Toward the 21st Century" and is a textbook for the 21st century. It covers fundamental theoretical knowledge such as the probability of random events, the distribution and digital characteristics of random variables, as well as common experimental statistical analysis methods and SAS programs. The appendix includes statistical tables for experimental statistics and answers to exercises.
Focusing on the requirements of experimental statistics, biostatistics, economic statistics, and social statistics, this book integrates theory with application while emphasizing the enhancement of students' awareness and ability to use mathematics. It is co-authored by Huazhong Agricultural University, Hunan Agricultural University, Henan Agricultural University, Hubei Agricultural College, and Guizhou University. The preliminary draft was tested by multiple teachers of Huazhong Agricultural University with nearly 500 students across three grades and six majors, undergoing multiple revisions.
This textbook can be used as a teaching material for agricultural universities and also as a reference for students in economics, management, sociology, biology, medicine, and other fields for self-study.
