Recalling our childhood, we have all learned the lesson of honesty and the prohibition of lying from the story "The Boy Who Cried Wolf." Reading "Zengzi and Keeping Promises," we understand that one should be trustworthy, even when it comes to a promise made to a child. The story "The Blind Man Touching an Elephant" teaches us to view things comprehensively, not just focusing on. Later, we learned that these stories are called "fables."
Fables are one of the oldest literary genres in the world. They typically use allegorical stories or personification of natural elements to convey moral lessons. Like proverbs and poetry, fables are unique treasures in the human literary treasury, embodying the wisdom of various ethnic groups. What makes fables enduringly charming is that anyone can derive some joy or enlightenment from them. Many excellent fables have had a profound impact on people.
This collection, "Selected Fables," includes 156 fables, carefully chosen from the vast and magnificent treasury of fables from around the world. These classic fables are selected from ancient Chinese fables, Aesop's Fables from ancient Greece, La Fontaine's Fables from France, Lessing's Fables from Germany, and Krylov's Fables from Russia. The editors strive to tell these captivating stories in simple language and have designed two sections for each fable: "Memorize the Moral" (summarizing the lesson) and "Think About It" (simple questions that children can find answers to within the story). This is done to help children deepen their understanding.
We hope that our efforts will be recognized by parents, and we also hope that these stories will benefit children.
