Features: This is a valuable experience shared by "old immigrants" for new immigrants and students. The author, living abroad, personally experienced the process of finding housing, jobs, learning to drive, and further studies after immigrating to New Zealand. They deeply understand the hardships involved, especially for Chinese immigrants coming from different social systems and cultural environments. Therefore, the author has compiled the experiences of themselves and other immigrants and students, based on the newly issued immigration and study policies in New Zealand, to write this book. Focusing on "practicality," each chapter provides accurate, systematic, and concise introductions to the information most concerned by students and immigrants after entering New Zealand. Readers can use it as a guide to deal with the new environment in an orderly manner. At the same time, the author has carefully designed 23 sets of situational dialogues, specifically targeting the communication situations that new immigrants or students are inevitably exposed to in each step. These dialogues have been reviewed by New Zealand language education experts. Therefore, this book can also help readers prepare for a quick language course before departure, enabling them to speak fluent and authentic English as soon as they arrive in New Zealand. Given its dual identity as both a "living guide" and a "spoken language quick course," this book is suitable for those planning to study or immigrate to New Zealand, as well as for readers who wish to learn about New Zealand and quickly improve their spoken English skills. This book categorizes the information that Chinese students and immigrants urgently need to understand upon arriving in New Zealand into seven chapters, arranged in the approximate order of essential tasks to be completed after entry. These chapters include the "Entry Section," "Housing Section," "Application Section," "Banking Section," "Driving Section," "Study Section," and "Job Seeking Section." The content of each chapter is divided into four subsections:
Section 1: "Brief Background Knowledge," which provides a relatively detailed introduction to life and handling skills related to the theme of the section, all in compliance with the latest official regulations (as of April 2004).
Section 2: "Typical Scene Dialogues," which carefully designs several typical scenarios based on daily life in New Zealand, helping readers quickly become familiar with the English used in daily life in New Zealand.
Section 3: "Practical Scene Sentences," which is a helpful supplement and summary of Section 2, including about 30 commonly used sentences.
Section 4: "Supplementary Background Materials," which may be short English essays or practical tips, all closely related to life in New Zealand, enriching readers' understanding of various aspects of New Zealand.
At the back of the book, the appendix includes the newly issued New Zealand government's technology immigration policy, which is highly concerned by students, as well as practical information such as contact methods for the Chinese Consulate in New Zealand.
