Andersen's fairy tales are brilliant diamonds in the world of children's literature. He wrote no fewer than 150 fairy tales in his lifetime, both long and short, stories that burst with sparks of love and compassion, stirring deep resonance within the heart, captivating readers. He affirmed the value of life and the dignity of humanity, encouraging the weak to be strong and the oppressed to stand up. He said, "Regardless of wealth or status, there is a thread hidden within each person's life, proving that we are all members of the human family." Reading Andersen's fairy tales will surely imbue readers with his optimistic and positive spirit, giving them hope and courage.
Hans Christian Andersen's full name is Hans Christian Andersen, but in Chinese, he is usually referred to by his surname, "Andersen." Born in 1805 in the small town of Odense in central Denmark, north of Europe, his father was a shoemaker who passed away early, and he was raised by his mother, who worked as a laundress for others. Therefore, he did not receive formal schooling and became a writer through self-study. At the age of seventeen, he had a poem published; later, he dedicated his entire talent to the children he loved and began writing fairy tales. He said, "I pour all my thoughts and feelings into my fairy tale writing, but I have not forgotten adults." Andersen's fairy tales are a "children's literature" that can be read by both children and adults. Andersen passed away in 1875 at the age of seventy.
China Federation of Literary and Art Circles Publishing House, Hong Kong Hai Tian Bookstore, and the Danish Scandinavia Publishing House collaborated to publish this collection of "Andersen's Fairy Tales." The stories were fully translated by the renowned Hong Kong translator Lin Muye, and the illustrations were created by world-class artists, presenting a richly illustrated collection for young readers. This allows Chinese readers to experience the lively and simple portrayal of characters crafted by Andersen's pen—a group of ordinary people who pursue noble ideals and beauty with their lives.
