Features: Published in March 2004. This book is a collection of clinical case studies by the Qing Dynasty physician Chen Shentian, with the publication date of the original text unknown. Chen Shentian was a native of Wu County (now part of Jiangsu Province) during the Daoguang and Xianfeng reigns of the Qing Dynasty. He was born in Changzhou Fengqiao and was renowned as a master of external and internal medicine, particularly for his expertise in treating skin and wound diseases, which earned him great prestige at the time. The book is organized by disease, covering 230 categories such as lung abscess, gastric abscess, goiter, wrist lymphoedema, and forehead carbuncle, with a total of 658 recorded cases. It also includes 36 herbal formulas for external use (though 3 of them are duplicates, making the actual number 33). The content encompasses a wide range of skin and wound diseases, including abscesses, goiters, lymphoedema, breast conditions, skin disorders, and genitourinary issues. Each case begins with a description of the condition, followed by the prescribed treatments. Many of the cases in the book feature continuous treatment, which helps readers understand the progression of the disease and the changes in treatment. However, some cases are described in a rather brief manner. The original text was a handwritten manuscript bound in five volumes and is now preserved at Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It has not been seen elsewhere and has not been reprinted since the liberation. This edition has been meticulously edited and organized, with careful text verification and the addition of modern punctuation marks. Some content has been adjusted to remove duplicates and irrelevant material. The original text did not have titles, but for the convenience of readers, titles have been added to the main body of the text. This has greatly enhanced the practical and documentary value of the book, making it an indispensable reference for clinical practitioners.
