Features: This textbook is based on years of teaching practice, incorporating new theories and technologies from both domestic and international sources, and is compiled in accordance with the requirements of the operating system teaching syllabus. The textbook focuses on the general principles and implementation techniques of operating systems. In terms of teaching methods, it emphasizes the combination of theory and practice, particularly using the contemporary popular UNIX operating system as an example to introduce the implementation techniques and skills of major service functions in the operating system. In terms of content arrangement, it progresses from general to specific, first introducing the concepts and service functions of the operating system, then explaining the specific implementation algorithms of these functions using UNIX System V as an example, while also introducing the stream mechanism and IPC communication mechanism in UNIX System V. Finally, it discusses the installation, application, networking, and communication of UNIX systems based on SCOUNIX, thereby strengthening the practical aspects. The book is divided into 12 chapters. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the development history, classification, functions, architecture, and characteristics of UNIX systems. Chapter 2 introduces the basic concepts of processes, related process operations, process communication, and interrupt handling. Chapter 3 covers processor management. Chapters 4 to 6 introduce the concepts, functions, and main implementation techniques of storage management, device management, and file systems. Chapter 7 discusses the concepts, prevention, and detection of deadlocks. Chapters 8 and 9 introduce the STREAMS (stream) mechanism and basic stream operations, as well as UNIX System V's IPC. Chapters 10 to 12 introduce the installation, application, and networking and communication of UNIX systems. This book can be used as a textbook for undergraduate students in computer science and electronic information engineering majors in higher education institutions, as well as for non-computer science graduate students. It can also serve as a reference for relevant professionals.
