Scientists Talk Science (Volume 1)

Author: Editorial Committee of "Scientists Explain Science"
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 2004-06-01
Features: A scientist, especially one who has "seen it all," can organize and articulate historical and contemporary research examples, including their own research experiences, which will serve as an excellent popularization of scientific thinking and methods. Therefore, we decided to adopt the writing style "Scientists Explain Science" and named the series accordingly. The plan was to begin publishing in installments starting from 2004. Each installment would feature around 30 science popularization essays suitable for use by primary and secondary school teachers, as well as for reading by middle school students. Each essay would describe a piece of scientific knowledge and process, supplemented by marginal notes and postscripts as guides to introduce readers to the underlying scientific ideas and methods, encouraging them to think and explore further. The articles in the book would be independent, each focusing on a single topic without interdependence. The distribution of articles across different disciplines would be kept roughly balanced. The essays are divided into two categories: one is newly created, forming the main body of the series, and the other is a direct transcription of selected exemplary science popularization works. Both types of essays maintain the original authors' writing styles. Authors and editors would use marginal notes and postscripts to provide guidance and insights.
