The book is divided into 14 chapters: Chapter 1 provides an overview of the definition, functions, characteristics, development history, and structure of operating systems; Chapters 2 to 7 discuss process and thread management, deadlock, scheduling, storage management, file management, and input/output management, respectively; Chapter 8 covers interrupt and signal mechanisms, briefly introducing the coordinated work of operating systems through examples; Chapter 9 introduces network operating systems; Chapter 10 discusses distributed operating systems; Chapter 11 covers system security and protection; Chapters 12 to 14 introduce the implementation technologies of three commonly used operating systems: UNIX, Linux, and Windows 2000. The appendix provides reference answers to exercises and teaching resources for instructors. This book is a key project for the construction of high-quality teaching materials in higher education in Beijing and can be used as a textbook for undergraduate and junior college computer science majors, a reference book for postgraduate entrance exams, or a self-study guide for computer professionals.
