In 17th-century Spain, there was a village gentleman named Alonso Quijano. He was so obsessed with knightly tales that he believed he had become a knight himself. He changed his name to "Don Quixote" because it sounded quite like a knight's name. He then found a farmer to be his squire and, dressed in armor, mounted a lean horse, embarking on adventures as a knight-errant. He mistook windmills for giants, inns for castles, and flocks of sheep for armies, causing many laughs and much suffering. It wasn't until near the end of his life that he realized the truth.
