Hemolytic jaundice

Patient's question:

My child is 17 days old, and I suspect they have hemolytic jaundice. However, both my husband and I are type B blood, and the child should also be type B. How could they develop hemolytic jaundice? Please advise the experts, thank you, urgent~~~ We have already undergone three days of blue light treatment. Could it be hemolytic jaundice??

Doctor's answer:

Pathological jaundice is caused by diseases, leading to abnormal metabolism of bilirubin. It occurs during a specific period in newborns, significantly exacerbating physiological jaundice and making it easy to confuse with the latter. Pathological jaundice is divided into: infectious and non-infectious types. Infectious jaundice can be caused by bacterial and other pathogen infections, such as viruses, syphilis spirochetes, toxoplasmosis, etc.; non-infectious jaundice includes hemolytic jaundice, biliary atresia, and hereditary diseases, among others.
