Treatment of neonatal ABO hemolytic disease, phototherapy and drug treatment admission

Patient's question:

January 15, 2013, jaundice, health station

Doctor's answer:

Hemolytic disease of the newborn due to ABO incompatibility only occurs when the child is born. Once the O antibodies transferred from the mother through the umbilical cord are consumed in the child's body, ABO incompatibility hemolysis will no longer occur. Therefore, ABO incompatibility hemolysis can be completely cured. However, jaundice caused by hemolysis in newborns must be actively treated to avoid excessively high jaundice levels affecting the brain and leading to hyperbilirubinemia. If the hemolysis is severe, causing significant anemia in the child, blood transfusions may be necessary in some cases.
