How to treat strabismus?

Patient's question:

Congenital strabismus. Cross-eyed, looking sideways. Gaotai County Hospital.

Doctor's answer:

Strabismus is a manifestation of amblyopia. It is classified as strabismic amblyopia, which can be further divided into esotropia, exotropia, hypertropia, and hypotropia. The most common types are esotropia and exotropia. Esotropia, also known as "crossed eyes," is treated using meridian-guided therapy, which focuses on treating amblyopia. As vision improves, the esotropia will completely resolve. In contrast, exotropia requires surgical correction after the amblyopia is cured.
Strabismus should be distinguished from head tilt. Some parents often misinterpret a child as strabismus, but this is not the case. Whether it is esotropia or exotropia, when vision reaches 0.8 or higher, it creates the condition for surgical correction of the strabismus. At this point, surgical correction should be performed.
