Lethargy in class, easily tired

Patient's question:

My child is 11 years old, goes to bed at 9 p.m. every night, and wakes up at 6:20 a.m. the next day. However, during the day, they often feel tired and easily drowsy, even falling asleep in class. What could be the reason for this?

Doctor's answer:

Children with emotional disorders may exhibit emotional apathy, showing indifference towards parents, teachers, classmates, and peers, as well as dull responsiveness. Regardless of significant events happening at home, school, or elsewhere, they display an unusually flat emotional reaction. Sometimes, when others feel sad about something, they may appear happy, or when others are happy, they may appear sad. Their emotional expressions, behaviors, and thoughts are often out of sync with their current environment. If the child is a boarder, insomnia, nightmares, sleepwalking, and frequent awakenings may also be observed, often accompanied by anxiety and fear.
