The two brothers from Germany, the Grimms, caused quite a sensation when they published Grimm's Fairy Tales in 1822, with children eagerly purchasing and sharing the book. Their stories drew from a wide range of sources, with a significant portion coming from folk tales from their hometown of Hesse. Growing up in the Black Forest region, they listened to stories and legends from their elders, which became the original material for their fairy tales. It was these folk tales that allowed their creations to resonate more deeply with both children and adults who truly loved fairy tales. At the same time, the fairy tales they wrote taught people how to discern right from wrong and how to stand up against evil, carrying strong social educational value.
