Patient's question:
NoDoctor's answer:
Hemolysis caused by incompatibility of fetal blood type. The blood type antigens (such as Rh and ABO blood type antigens) inherited from the father are lacking in the mother. During delivery, these fetal blood type antigens enter the mother's body, causing the mother to produce antibodies against these blood type antigens. In subsequent pregnancies, these antibodies can cross the placenta into the fetal blood circulation, leading to hemolysis.
