Concise History of the Jewish People

Features: The content narrated in this book is not merely a record of persecution, suffering, and academic achievements; nor does the bloodshed of the massacre and the beauty of literature alternately overflow on the pages as all previous works have done mechanically. It is more like a history of society. I have strived to portray the true faces of ordinary Jews—how they began their unique experiences, what achievements they made, what professions they engaged in and why, what caused their current distribution and ways of life, and how the various characteristics commonly associated with them evolved, and so on. Of course, literature and spiritual life have not been ignored, because for Jews, such an omission is far more unforgivable than in the same situation in other historical fields. However, I have done my best to present everything they have experienced, including tragic persecution, from their own unique perspectives—not merely as an entity of a nation, but as all aspects of that existence.
