Features: Anchi Studio Seal Collection by Chen Julai, an expert in seal carving, has devoted sixty-four years to the art. He has extensively studied and collected rare seal albums across China, meticulously imitating and absorbing the strengths of various masters. Initially, he was deeply influenced by Zhao Huishu and Huang Mufu, gaining insight into the profound techniques. Later, under the guidance of Gao Yaohou (then renowned), he immersed himself in the works of Cheng Mufu, Wang Yinzi, and Ba Weizu, absorbing their essence. He also specialized in Yuan Dynasty red seal carving, exploring its techniques. Upon reading The Collection of Elephant Tusk and Rhinoceros Horn Seals from the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties compiled by Ge Shuhui of Pinghu, he further researched the origins and evolution of Yuan Dynasty red seals, delving into their composition and cutting techniques. Determined to innovate, he received invaluable guidance and encouragement from his teacher, Zhao Shurong, who praised his work as "[seal carving is rich and profound, Yuan red seals are the best of modern times]." As a result, many sought his expertise, and museums and libraries in Zhejiang, Anhui, Guangdong, Sichuan, Beijing, and Shanghai have collaborated to create collections of Yuan Dynasty red seals. Seal carving for contemporary masters such as Zhang Daqian, Pu Xinyu, Wu Hufan, and Ye Gongchuo, including their name seals, collection seals, calligraphy and painting seals, and inscriptions, were often done by Anchi. Overseas art circles also requested numerous pieces, sending his works across the ocean. Between his carving sessions, he devoted himself to writing about seals, compiling over a foot of essays, including Anchi Studio Seal Talks and Selections of Ancient Seal Patterns. Anchi carved over thirty thousand seals, but most of his prints were discarded, with only a fraction preserved. Fortunately, his peers, such as Mr. Yang Peng, meticulously compiled and published Seals from the Hezhai Collection, followed by the Hong Kong edition Anchi Studio Seal Collection, which gained widespread recognition. Japan and the United States later reprinted the works, further enhancing their presentation. This time, Shanghai People's Fine Arts Publishing House has specially published Anchi Studio Seal Collection, featuring over four hundred pieces, carefully selected from his old and recent works, arranged in a thoughtful sequence. Primarily featuring Song Dynasty white seals and Yuan Dynasty red seals, followed by Han Dynasty seals and imitations of Qin ancient seals. Among them, the seals carved for Zhang Daqian, Zhang Baichu, and the renowned Japanese scholar Professor Koba Toan are particularly exquisite, showcasing both skill and artistic mastery. The publication of this book will serve as a valuable reference for future generations and a treasure for the art world to appreciate.
