Features: Hrabal's Masterpiece Collection. In China, everyone knows Milan Kundera. But who knows Bohumil Hrabal? Bohumil Hrabal (BOHUMILHRABAL, 1914-1997), a law graduate, reconstructed his life in this way: he served in the army, worked as a salesman, a warehouse manager, a steelworker, and later as a packer at a scrap recycling plant and a stagehand. At the age of 49, his works were finally published, and he later received over 30 domestic and international awards. Many of his works were adapted into films and plays, winning the Golden Bear Award at the Berlin Film Festival and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film. This is a book about Hrabal's life and creative process, featuring numerous photographs of his daily life. He often asked himself, "Who am I?" and examined his vices, misdeeds, weaknesses, and eccentricities through his wife's mocking retorts and his own merciless gaze, proving that "literature is extremely cruel, just like nature—it shows no mercy and tolerates no excuses." Hrabal's life ended like this: On February 3, 1997, it was discovered that the writer, who was about to recover and leave the hospital, had fallen to his death from the fifth-floor window of the hospital. This "Hrabal Masterpiece Collection" is being released, with the Chinese Youth Publishing House having purchased the copyright in its entirety and the renowned translator directly translating from the Czech original.
