Muhammad (570-632 AD) was born into a declining aristocratic family of the western tribe of Mecca. In the early 7th century, he began to preach in Mecca, calling believers to worship the one true God, Allah, and proclaiming that all Muslims are brothers, regardless of tribe. This was conducive to the unification of Arabia. His teachings were later compiled into the Islamic holy book, the Quran.
Initially, Islam faced opposition from the commercial aristocracy of Mecca, who feared it would undermine their political power and economic interests derived from market trade. Therefore, in 622 AD, Muhammad was forced to flee with a small group of followers to Medina (meaning "City of the Prophet"). This year later became the first year of the Islamic calendar.
Muhammad utilized the power of the farmers, artisans, and poor people in Medina to establish a theocracy, organizing armed conflict against the commercial aristocracy of Mecca. In 630 AD, Muhammad reached an agreement with the Meccan aristocracy, who accepted Islam and recognized him as the political and religious leader. Muhammad acknowledged the Black Stone of the Kaaba temple as an Islamic sacred relic, converting the Kaaba temple into a mosque while preserving the religious and economic interests of the Meccan aristocracy.
Islam played a significant role in the unification of Arabia and became a tool for the ruling class. By the time Muhammad died in 632 AD, the Arabian Peninsula was largely unified.
Both authors of this book are female scholars proficient in Arabic. They have studied in Arab countries twice and have engaged in Islamic studies for many years, achieving remarkable results. Even more pleasing is that Comrade Sha Qiuquan is a Hui Muslim. The publication of this book is a testament to the joint research on Islamic culture by Muslims and non-Muslims.
The book highlights Muhammad's profound frugality, thirst for knowledge, and contemplation of life with detailed, rigorous, and vivid descriptions. At the same time, it uses the beautiful legends and religious prophecies unique to Arab culture to portray Muhammad's legendary qualities as a prophet, giving the book a rich Islamic cultural context. The book is fluent throughout and is suitable for readers with middle school or higher education. We hope that Muslim readers, in particular, will approve of it.
