Patient's question:
NoDoctor's answer:
When a baby is born, the anterior and posterior fontanelles are relatively small. As the brain and skull develop, by 3 to 4 months of age, the length of the line connecting the midpoints of the opposite sides of the anterior fontanelle is 1.5 to 2 centimeters. In normal cases, it typically closes completely between 1 to 1.5 years of age. The posterior fontanelle is very small or already closed at birth and should close no later than 6 to 8 weeks after birth.
