Features: In the past, China learned about India through Buddhism. For two thousand years, Buddhism has had a significant influence on Chinese society. Buddhism opposed the caste system of Hinduism and proposed the equality of all beings. Of course, whether it could actually be achieved is another matter, which is not discussed here. The poet Tagore infused the idea of the equality of all beings into the revered figure of Hinduism, reflecting the poet's concept of equality and populism. Regardless, both Shivaji and Ramdas in this poem embody the spirit of populism and are the ideal figures of the poet.
The lyrical poems in this book include five songs that morely reflect Tagore's feelings in 1905 when the British colonial authorities conspired to divide Bengal and the nationalist movement suffered a setback. These songs deeply conceal his love for the nation and his country. These songs do not contain empty and grand pronouncements, which, in our habit of expecting grand pronouncements, might seem as if his emotions are somewhat depressed or even pessimistic. However, in reality, his thoughts and emotions are so simple, profound, and persistent.
