Patient's question:
NoDoctor's answer:
Mumps primarily manifests as swelling of one or both submandibular glands, with the swollen parotid glands often appearing hemispherical, centered around the earlobe with indistinct margins. The surface may feel warm and tender to touch, and pain may be experienced when opening the mouth or chewing. The swelling of the parotid glands is most prominent on the 1st to 3rd day of onset and gradually subsides thereafter, completely resolving within about 2 weeks. In the initial 3 to 5 days of illness, systemic symptoms such as fever, fatigue, and a lack of appetite may occur.
