Symptoms of infant diarrhea

Patient's question:

No

Doctor's answer:

Children's diarrhea is primarily characterized by an increase in the frequency of bowel movements and changes in stool consistency. Mild diarrhea involves less than 10 bowel movements per day, with varying amounts of loose, yellow, egg-like, or sometimes brown watery stool. Severe diarrhea involves 10 or more bowel movements per day, or even dozens, with large amounts of stool sometimes containing small amounts of blood. Symptoms may include poor appetite, vomiting, thirst, reduced or no urination, dry skin, sunken fontanelle and eye sockets, cold limbs, generalized cyanosis, hypotension, shock, and convulsions. This condition can be life-threatening at any time and should be treated promptly at a hospital.
