Features: "Ci Yuan" (A Dictionary of Chinese Characters), guided by the principles, viewpoints, and methods of Marxism-Leninism and Mao Zedong Thought; words related to modern natural sciences, social sciences, and applied technologies have been removed based on the nature and purpose of the book; the scope of entries generally ends with the Opium War (1840 AD); some commonly used headwords have been added, while those that are not words or too obscure have been deleted. Single characters are annotated with Pinyin and Zhuyin, and the onsets and rhymes of Guangyun are provided. For characters not included in Guangyun, the onsets and rhymes from Jiyun or other rhyming dictionaries are used. Definitions are concise and precise, with attention paid to the origins of words and their development and evolution in usage. All textual evidence has been carefully verified, and the author, title, and volume number are clearly marked.
