It was originally written for a graduate course on "Contemporary Western Poetics" offered by the Chinese Department. The motivation for teaching and writing this book was twofold: on the one hand, to broaden students' theoretical perspectives and knowledge, and to enhance their critical thinking and analytical skills; on the other hand, to further clarify the issues and context of contemporary Western poetics through teaching and writing, in order to apply it to critical practice.
