Features: Energy refers to the total of various natural resources that can produce different forms of energy. It is essential fuel and power for human survival, industrial, agricultural, defense, scientific and technological development, and improving people's lives. With the development of social production and science and technology, humans have gradually expanded the scope of energy use. The history of human energy utilization is also the history of humans understanding and conquering nature, as well as achieving scientific and technological revolutions. In history, human society has gone through three energy periods: an energy period dominated by biomass fuels, water power, and animal power; a coal-dominated energy period; and a petroleum and natural gas-dominated energy period. Currently, the world is in the petroleum and natural gas-dominated energy period. The issue of the relationship between oil and national security involves a wide range of aspects. This book attempts to explain the constraints of oil on national security from three perspectives—global, major powers, and China—from economic, political, military, and diplomatic aspects, highlighting the severe challenges oil poses to national security in the new century. At the same time, we also propose our own suggestions for China's oil development strategy, which can serve as a reference for relevant decision-making authorities.
