Author Bio: John Dickson Carr (1906–1977) was an American writer born in Pennsylvania and graduated from Wheaton College. He studied abroad in Paris but later moved to Britain to settle. Carr used several pen names, with "Dixon Carr" being the most famous. His mystery novels are full of "closed-room murder mysteries" and "impossible crimes," earning him the title of the "Master of the Closed Room." Beyond this, Carr specialized in researching unsolved 17th-century cases and incorporated his insights into his fictional works. He was a versatile experimentalist, attempting to blend various genres such as surreal horror and time-travel fantasy into mystery novels, thereby creating a new landscape. Additionally, he was renowned for his historical mystery novels. With his deep understanding of British customs and culture, Carr's writing exudes a strong classical British flavor, and his American nationality often surprises readers. He was also an invited member of the English Detection Club. Carr won the Edgar Allan Poe Award twice in his lifetime: in 1960 for his biographical novel The Life of Sherlock Holmes and in 1962 for the "Master of Mystery Award."
