Features: In the 19th century, after the Russian Empire's expansion in Europe was halted, it had to change its direction: on one hand, it attempted to cross Siberia eastward, extending its borders all the way to the coast of the Pacific Ocean; on the other hand, it sought to traverse the Hindu Kush Mountains to occupy a passage, reaching the Indian Ocean directly. Due to the corruption and incompetence of the late Qing government, in 1860, through the "Treaty of Beijing," they ceded the ice-free port of Vladivostok. The Russian Empire's eastward ambitions were realized. However, the more significant southward expansion was blocked by the British imperialist forces in India at that time, making the region around the Pamirs in Central Asia a frontline of confrontation between the two powers. Although later, through continuous struggles and compromises, a buffer zone was temporarily established between the two powers, the competition for spheres of influence was inevitable on the international stage, and buffers could never be stable. The series of events that have occurred in the region since World War II and even today fully demonstrate that it has become one of the world's most closely watched geopolitical focal points, capable of triggering and changes in international affairs at any moment.
