Features: The 20th century was the most tumultuous era in Chinese history, marked by extremely intense social transformation. Over the course of a hundred years, it experienced feudal dynasties, the Five Nationalities Republic, warlord domination, the New Policies of the Republic of China, puppet regimes under Japanese and pseudonymous governance, and various political systems and titles of the People's Republic. In just 100 years, it traversed the "spring, summer, autumn, and winter" of the 5,000-year history of the Chinese nation, completing two "turns" of modernization and modernization. The changes in social language were particularly rich, with each term having its specific historical context, making it impossible to "translate" based solely on the literal meaning. This presents numerous "troubles" for reading and translating 20th-century social and historical documents. Based on this, the compilers delved into history, "rummaging through boxes and drawers," collecting over 10,000 social idioms and specialized terms from vast amounts of old newspapers and historical documents. These are divided into thirteen categories, with all translations strictly adhering to the original expressions to preserve the historical traces. This book lists only the Chinese and English expressions of the term names without providing explanations. The terms are primarily drawn from common and frequent public reading materials, with a focus on political terminology, and does not include specialized academic concepts.
