On China's New Industrialization and Urbanization

Author: Zhang Yimin
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-03-01
Features: As a monograph on the study of China's industrialization and urbanization, this book has two distinctive characteristics compared to similar works:
First, it combines the study of industrialization and urbanization. In the author's view, the two are two aspects of the same historical process. Without industrialization, urbanization cannot be explained, and without urbanization, industrialization cannot be ultimately completed. The author's perspective and research approach reveal the historical truth of industrialization and urbanization from the unity of history and logic, without excluding the method of studying them separately. Separate studies are beneficial for depth, while combined studies allow for a comprehensive exploration of their intrinsic connections and regularities from a broader perspective. Therefore, in the author's view, the division and combination in research methods are not mutually exclusive. Overall, the book emphasizes combination, with the first part discussing the comprehensive aspects and the following two parts focusing separately on industrialization and urbanization.
Second, it studies China's new industrialization and urbanization, which is essentially the study of industrialization and urbanization with Chinese characteristics. This new model differs from both the models of developed countries and newly industrialized countries, as well as from the models adopted during the planned economy period in our own country.
