Can 3D ultrasound detect Down syndrome?

Patient's question:

21-trisomy risk is 1/70, high risk. The doctor recommends amniocentesis.

Doctor's answer:

The screening test can only help determine the likelihood of the fetus having Down syndrome, but it cannot confirm whether the fetus actually has Down syndrome. In other words, if the blood test index is high, the chance of having a "Down syndrome baby" is higher, but it does not necessarily mean the fetus has a problem. Clinically, only 1% of high-risk fetuses may actually be affected. However, if a Down syndrome child is born without amniocentesis, it will be very unfavorable for the child and the family. 3D ultrasound can check whether the fetus has neural tube defects. High-risk results from glucose screening must undergo amniocentesis, and the risk of amniocentesis is less than 0.1%.
