Fetal NT value is high

Patient's question:

An abdominal ultrasound was performed on the fetus at 12 weeks and 6 days. The fetal NT value was approximately 0.25 cm. I would like to ask what the normal value is for this, and what risks are associated with a high value?

Doctor's answer:

Analysis of the condition: The nuchal translucency (NT) is a measurement of the thickness of the subcutaneous fluid collection in the posterior neck of the fetus.
Advice: A rough and simple estimation method is that in normal pregnancies at 11-14 weeks, a measurement of less than 2.5 mm is considered normal, while a measurement of 2.5 mm or greater is diagnosed as nuchal translucency thickening. As the thickness increases, the likelihood of fetal abnormalities also increases. Wishing you good health!
