Infantile Spasms Rehabilitation Treatment

Patient's question:

Six months after the first episode of fever, it was just shrugging and hunching the shoulders. Later, it occasionally recurred, but other aspects were normal, including turning over, sitting, and crawling, so it wasn't taken seriously. Around nine months, the episodes increased, becoming nodding and hugging-like movements. The hospital diagnosed it as infantile spasms. The MRI was normal, but the EEG was abnormal. Medication was started. After beginning the medication, the body became softer, but the episodes were controlled. There were a couple of relapses due to missed doses and a cold. Now at seventeen months, the condition has been controlled for about three months. The child's arms and legs seem fine, but the waist is weak. Before medication, the child was normal, but after starting medication, crawling became unstable, and the child easily fell, often hitting their head first. Now, they can walk a short distance while holding onto the sofa, but it's still unstable, and they cannot stand alone.

Doctor's answer:

Children with epilepsy are suitable for family rehabilitation, especially for infantile spasms. It is recommended to come to the outpatient clinic for training guidance and family rehabilitation.
