Suspected pediatric epilepsy

Patient's question:

The child is 5 and a half years old. They have previously experienced seizures caused by high fever, about four times. During this examination, an electroencephalogram revealed: during sleep, suspicious spikes and sharp waves throughout the brain accompanied by high... After the activity paroxysm, an MRI scan was performed, which found: a possible arachnoid cyst in the right temporal lobe.

Doctor's answer:

Hello, according to your description, your child can currently only be considered to have febrile seizures. If there are multiple convulsions within a day of fever, or each convulsion lasts more than 15 minutes, or the convulsion is a focal seizure of one limb, then it should be considered a complex febrile seizure. If there are convulsions without fever, then it should be diagnosed as epilepsy.
