Features: Preface With the sound of the New Century's bell, the Chinese people have taken bold steps into a new era. China has been praised by people around the world. In 2002, after 14 years of arduous negotiations, China finally joined the WTO, marking a great achievement in its reform and opening-up. Similarly, it is heartening to note that in the same year, the International Olympic Committee decided to hold the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, fully demonstrating the remarkable achievements of the Chinese people in sports and reaching an advanced level in international sports. To welcome this grand sports event, to promote the continued prosperity and development of China's sports industry and maintain its leading position in the world, and to help more Chinese athletes and sports enthusiasts understand the Olympic Games and spark a new wave of national fitness, we collaborated with experts from the Guangdong Translation Association and, after more than a year of dedicated effort, compiled this dictionary. We hope to contribute our modest efforts to the development of China's sports industry. Due to the urgency of the times, limited resources, and insufficient experience, this dictionary is bound to have various shortcomings. We sincerely welcome criticism and suggestions from all experts and are deeply grateful for your guidance. During the compilation process, Professor Hu Tongxu, the Director of the Guangzhou Education Bureau, kindly provided guidance, Professor Xu Xiaozhen, the Director of the Foreign Languages Department at Shenzhen Polytechnic, actively supported the compilation efforts, and Lin Sen, an editor at Fudan University Press, offered numerous constructive suggestions. The editorial board extends heartfelt thanks to all of them. Editorial Committee July 2003
